This cake was made for a very lucky one year old girl named Caroline. The flavors of cake (from bottom to top tier) were yellow, chocolate, red velvet, and white almond. I hope little Caroline enjoyed this cake as much as I enjoyed making it for her!

This cake and these cookie favors were made for a baby shower. The woman throwing the shower came up with the idea based on the design of the babys room decor. I thought it was an excellent idea and it turned out wonderfully! I love the zebra stripes contrasted with the vibrant blue and yellow colors. The next time I throw a friend a baby shower, I might steal her idea! This cake was made for MY 2 year old, Abigail Ryan. She sat down with me and looked at pictures of cakes and helped me design it. Her criteria was to have ice cream cones, a big cupcake, and Elmo. I had so much fun making this cake. The bottom tier was a fudge marble cake with a cookies & cream filling, the middle tier was chocolate and yellow layers with chocolate ganache filling and the top tier was confetti cake with vanilla buttercream. Happy Birthday Abby!
As I'm writing this, I'm realizing that I haven't updated ANYTHING on my website or blog since July! I've definitely taken some time off and will continue to do so because we are having a baby boy in about 2 1/2 weeks! I've been taking very few orders over the past few months but still wanted to share the pictures. It's true when people say it's about quality not quantity. I love being able to be able to give each cake I make the amount of attention it deserves. When we were living in Raleigh, I was doing about 10 cakes each weekend and now my goal is to do 1-3 cakes a month. To be honest, I don't miss being that busy! I love being able to focus on my children and still being able to have a creative outlet. It's really nice to be able to talk to a customer on the phone for 45 minutes without being stressed out about how many other phone calls I need to make. I'm sure I will definitely start taking more and more orders as the kids get older but for the time being, I feel lucky to be able to do what I do!

A Few New Cakes
This cake was for a 50th birthday party that was being held at a Wine Vineyard. The cake was white almond with rasberry filling and dark chocolate frosting. It was my first time "painting" with luster dust. Everything on the cake is edible!
This cake is for a baby shower and I loved the design! The bottom tier is white vanilla with rasberry filling and vanilla buttercream and the top tier is chocolate cake with peanut butter cup filling and vanilla buttercream. I hope they enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Clambake!
I can definitely tell I'm back in New England! I had so much fun making this cake which is made of white vanilla confetti cake, vanilla buttercream and vanilla fondant.
The cupcakes are vanilla confetti cake also with watermelon buttercream and topped with fondant lobsters.
The sugar cookies are also flavored with a hint of watermelon, which is perfect for any summer occasion. They are decorated with fondant and royal icing.

Last Minute Cake Ideas
There are many times when people need a "last minute" cake. I've come up with a few different designs to make those last minute orders easier for everyone. The first one is a Chocolate Ganache Birthday Cake. Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Buttercream, drenched in Chocolate Ganache, trimmed with Chocolate mousse, and topped with multi colored sprinkles, what could be better? Serving 20, this cake costs $39.00. This cake can also be made with vanilla cake and vanilla buttercream.
The second cake is perfect for bridal or baby showers...Decorated with fondant polka dots, ribbons, and bows to match the colors of your event, this cake is sure to be a perfect centerpiece for your party. You may choose the flavors of cake and frosting as well. The cost is $80.00.
Another solution for those last minute orders, are our 8" round layered cakes. Simply decorated, you can choose from a variety of flavors: German Chocolate, Coconut, Rich Chocolate, Sweet Vanilla, Lemonade Stand, Birthday Cake, Southern Red Velvet, Carrot Top, Cookies & Cream, Hot Fudge Sundae, Black & White, and Peanut Butter Cup.
The 8" Round cake serves 16 and costs $35. These flavors are also available as gourmet cupcakes which cost $20 per dozen.

A New "Slice" in Life!
We have a new name! Sarah's Cakes is now officially Abigail's Bake Shop. We decided when we moved from North Carolina to Rhode Island that we needed to spice up our website, our business plan, and our name. The name comes from our youngest daughter, Abby who is 16 months old. I figured I owed it to her since we began this business while I was still pregnant with her. Her first memories have been of me holding her in the kitchen while trying out new recipes, going on cake deliveries as early as a week old, and sleeping in my arms while I was conducting tastings in our dining room. When Abby was 6 months old, I had her in her "boppy" on the kitchen counter while I was decorating some cupcakes for the website. In one moment, she reached down, picked up a cupcake, and stuffed the whole thing in her mouth before I had a chance to blink! So, Abby...I dedicate the name to you and have loved every minute of your life. Thank you for making my life, "sweeter".
In order to make it "fair" in our family, our 4 year old, Emily has decided that we should name all of our cupcakes after her! So, whenever you eat one of our delicious cupcakes, remember that, unofficially, you are eating one of our famous, "Emily Cupcakes"!
